What people are saying

"The content exceeded my expectations. I've been to Adobe Max, CFUnited and Flash Forward, many of these sessions at these conferences are full of fluff. I found the majority of cf.Objective's sessions to contain useful info. Thank you!"
James Eisenlohr - NASA

"Good, diverse topics. There was never a session slot where I couldn't find anything that I wanted to attend."
Jay Springer - Mounds Park Academy

"I'd only heard good things about cf.Objective(), so as a first-timer, I was very excited to see the venue and experience the content first-hand. I have not been disappointed!"
Lynn Doogs - Jack Henry Associates, Inc.

Building Secure CFML Applications by Jason Dean and Pete Freitag

April 21 - One Day

Course Description

Hacking a website is one of the best ways to learn about web application security. In this one-day hands-on course you will learn about a wide range of security topics essential to every ColdFusion developer.

The course will begin by covering the principles and foundations of application security. Next you will learn about vulnerabilities by exploiting them in a vulnerable example application. As you hack each vulnerability you will also dig into the source code behind it, and fix it as we discuss countermeasures to prevent these vulnerabilities from showing up in your applications.

Jason Dean

Currently employed by the Minnesota Department of Health, Jason Dean has been working in Information Technology for 12 years, focusing on application security for the past three. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard trained in both physical and information security, he held a secret security clearance and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management from American Military University. He keeps busy managing a ColdFusion User Group at the Department of Health, sitting on the board of the Twin Cities ColdFusion User Group, speaking at conferences and user groups, training, and blogging at http://www.12robots.com.

Pete Freitag

Pete Freitag has over ten years of experience web applications with ColdFusion. In 2006 he started Foundeo Inc, a ColdFusion consulting and products company. Pete helps clients develop and architect custom ColdFusion applications, as well as increasing the performance and security of existing applications. He has also built several products ranging from a ColdFusion Spell Checker to a Web Application Firewall for ColdFusion. Pete holds a BS in Software Engineering from Clarkson University.

Developing Applications with ColdFusion 9 Object Relational Mapping by Mark Mandel and Bob Silverberg

April 20-21 - Two Days

Course Description

You've heard the buzz about ColdFusion 9's ORM integration but may be wondering how to get started using it in your applications. Here's your opportunity to learn all about it from two seasoned ColdFusion veterans.

This comprehensive two-day workshop will cover what you need to know to get up and running using ColdFusion 9's ORM features in your next project. Through interactive learning and hands-on labs, we'll start with the basics, continuing through building two complete working applications. Along the way we'll discuss best practices and potential pitfalls of this powerful new technology.

The majority of the class will be spent with you writing code on your own workstation, so not only will you absorb more through "learning by doing", but you'll also go home with plenty of working code examples that you can bring into your future projects.

No previous knowledge of ORMs or Object Oriented programming is required, but a basic knowledge of CFCs would be helpful.

Mach-II and OOP from the Ground Up by Peter Farrell, Kurt Wiersma and Matt Woodward

April 20-21 - Two Days

Course Description

Come to cf.Objective() 2010 a couple of days early and learn Mach-II and OOP from the ground up!

Team Mach-IITM is offering a two-day pre-conference workshop that helps developers learn how to build rock-solid object-oriented CFML applications using the Mach-II framework. This workshop is ideal for CFML developers who want to take their development skills to the next level by using object-oriented techniques and the power of Mach-II.

This two-day workshop includes a total of 14 hours of training time, not including breaks and lunch.

New and Improved Mach-II Workshop

We have made a number of improvements to the workshop since we first offered it two years ago at cf.Objective() 2008. The presentations have been streamlined in order to allow for maximum hands-on coding, and we dig into the latest features introduced in Mach-II 1.8 ("Simplicity") as well as new features in Mach-II 1.9 ("Integrity").

In addition, this year each participant is provided a lab computer with all software and hands-on labs pre-installed. At the end of the workshop all materials will be provided on a thumb drive so participants can take their work with them.

And the best news is that we have reduced the price of the workshop by 45%!

Requirements

Below is a listing of some of the course requirements or assumptions you will need:

  • The workshop, which is not an introduction to CFML, was designed for developers who are able to build complete procedural applications in cfml.
  • Basic knowledge of CFCs is helpful, but not required, for this workshop. A primer for CFCs will be emailed to participants approximately two weeks before the workshop.
  • Participants are NOT expected to bring a laptop/notebook computer. Pre-configured computers are provided for all participants at the workshop location. This will minimize setup and configuration issues and allow for maximum hands-on training time.

Rapid Development with Model-Glue 3 by Dan Wilson and Ezra Parker

April 20-21 - Two Days

Course Description

Model-Glue is a rapid development MVC (model-view-controller) framework for ColdFusion. Version 3, code named Gesture, is an evolution of the Model-Glue franchise and introduces a number of workflow enhancements that enable you to build better designed applications much more quickly.

In this class, we'll step through building an application using the most cutting-edge techniques in Model-Glue application development. Focusing on hands-on practice rather than theory, this course will demonstrate proven techniques for efficiently assembling complex applications with a minimum amount of effort. Taught by the directors of the Model-Glue framework, you can be assured of the most up-to-date training from the folks who guide and shape the framework itself.

At the end of the class, you will have a greater understanding of how to architect and construct Model-Glue applications using the most current standards and practices.

Class attendees will ideally have had some previous exposure to object-oriented development concepts, and will need to supply their own laptop computer.
